We are approaching that time of year!

As the new year gets closer, the gym starts to look more and more appealing. Not necessarily because we really WANT to go, but because we feel that we SHOULD go!

After all the excessive eating and drinking we’ve indulged in over the holidays, we start feeling the effects in our waistbands!

So naturally we decide to make losing weight and getting into shape number one on our New Year’s Resolutions list!

Resolutions are really just setting goals, something we all do both consciously and unconsciously.

However, in order to achieve your goals, you want them to be SMART:

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Action-oriented

R – Realistic

T – Time-sensitive

The best way to achieve goals is to set process goals instead of outcome goals.

For example, if you want to lose twenty pounds, or lose two dress sizes, don’t make that your goal- that is an outcome.  Focus your goal on what you need to do in order to reach that outcome.  The process goal may be sticking to your workout schedule, signing up and going to fitness classes or giving up an unhealthy eating habit.

This way by the time you lose those twenty pounds or two dress sizes, you will have created new healthy habits and you’ll be inspired and motivated to continue setting goals and moving forward.  And the healthy habits are what really count!!!

Now for some of you, setting goals is just not enough.  The challenge comes in sticking to them!  After all, if you don’t follow through on the actions, you will never see any results!  This is when you need to enlist the assistance of a coach.

Having a coach keeps you motivated and focused.  Your coach helps you to achieve your personal goals by emphasizing your strengths and identifying your blocks, and gets you to move through them.
